Compex Technical Development Manager

Job description

What does it take for technical professionals to stay safe in hazardous working environments such as oil platforms and chemical plants? It takes outstanding levels of technical training, awareness and technical competence – and CompEx is the recognised international certification scheme for the protection of oil, gas and chemical workers in both onshore and offshore environments.

So join us as Technical Development Manager and your personal and professional expertise will fundamentally influence the ongoing development and success of the scheme.

The challenges are substantial. You will provide the certification scheme with subject matter expertise relating to explosive atmospheres, relevant technical standards, regulation and industry best practice. This will include responsibility for all aspects of qualification development, assessment and quality assurance. In addition to conducting integrity reviews and creating audit and assessment tools, for instance, you will work with the Product Manager and business development team to refine and improve our competency frameworks. You will also work with potential and existing customers to develop tailored training and assessment solutions. In addition, we will rely on you to draft documentation and represent CompEx on industry committees and the Technical Advisory Council.

What we’re looking for

Ideally holding or working towards Chartered Engineer status, you must combine a relevant degree or comparable professional experience with strong background in electrical or mechanical explosive atmospheres, hazardous environments or functional safety. This will include an excellent understanding of IEC Standards 60079 Parts 14 & 17, ISO 80079 Parts 36 & 37 and/or IEC 6511. If you hold the CompEx core practitioner certificate, so much the better – and any consulting, sales or customer management experience would be a distinct advantage. Excellent presentation, interpersonal and IT skills are essential, as is the ability to write commercial, technical and educational documentation. You will also need a current UK passport and driving licence and the willingness to travel nationally and internationally when required.

What’s in it for you?

In return, we can promise you an attractive salary, benefits including a pension and life assurance, flexible home-based working and the kind of career prospects you would expect from a business belonging to JTL, one of the UK’s leading work-based learning providers in the building services engineering sector.
